Doha International Airport (DIA) announced a record 2,191,148 passengers travelled through its doors in January 2014, representing a significant 17.86% growth rate compared to January 2013.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of DIA’s recent news that it successfully increased its year on year passenger traffic by 10% in 2013. It reaffirms its position as an ever-growing international hub registering a year-on-year growth every month since its inception.
Cargo traffic also saw a substantial 12.1% increase in January. This highlights DIA’s enhanced cargo facility and unique transport offering, with the introduction of QR Pharma and QR Fresh – two solutions designed to optimise the transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive goods, including high-value pharmaceutical products and perishables.
Abdulaziz Al-Mass, Senior Public Relations and Communications Manager at DIA, comments: “DIA is seeing continuous growth as Qatar becomes an important regional and international aviation hub. We realize the importance of these growing numbers and have taken the necessary measures to ensure passengers and clients are provided with a unique and convenient travel experience.”
Overall mail traffic increased by 0.21% compared to January 2013, with a notable increase in inbound mail.
January also brought a notable 7.39% growth in aircraft movements at DIA compared to January the previous year.
DIA management has taken a range of measures to ensure passenger comfort and convenience, and has invested significantly in infrastructure improvements, including additional check-in gates, more aircraft parking bays and expanded terminal facilities to provide passengers with a comfortable, safe and enjoyable travel experience.
