Etihad Airways has appointed Mick Adams – the former head of Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL) as vice president of MRO division, Arabian Aerospace has reported. Etihad Airways bought the maintenance operation Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies, (ADAT) from Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala in May. The UAE national carrier has taken over engineering assets, paint facilities and personnel needed it to carry out airframe and component work on its expanding fleet – including its new Boeing 787s and Airbus A380s. ADAT was created in 2007 after Mubadala took over Gulf Aircraft Maintenance (GAMCo) following the break-up of the four-nation partnership of Gulf Air and rebranded the firm. The maintenance functions provided by Etihad MRO are being opened to Etihad’s equity alliance partners as well as third-party customers. Adams had spent 29 years with MAEL leading it to become a successful third-party maintenance provider.
