Qatar Airways chief executive, Akbar al-Baker has said the government of the Gulf country is applying to have a US preclearance customs facility to screen travellers headed to the United States, the Associated Press has reported. In January, the US opened a preclearance post in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi that lets passengers avoid immigration and customs lines on arrival. US pilots and members of Congress have criticized the facility, alleging it could benefit UAE national carrier Etihad Airways over US airlines.
