Turkish Airlines, Europe’s best airline*, recorded an impressive 35% increase in passenger traffic from Kuwait in 2013, compared to the previous year, further demonstrating the incredible growth momentum of Turkey’s national carrier as it celebrates its 80th year of operations.
To mark the strong performance, Turkish Airlines hosted a gala dinner event to honour travel agents in Kuwait. The celebratory evening, held at JW Marriott in Kuwait City, recognised partners for their continual support and contribution to driving not only the growth in passenger traffic from Kuwait but contributing to the 23.6 per cent increase in passenger traffic in 2013 across the airline’s 105 countries network, compared to the previous year.
Mr Sami Aydogan, General Manager for Turkish Airlines in Kuwait, said: “We are delighted to honour the travel industry for their continual support and contribution to the airline’s robust expansion in Kuwait which led to frequencies being doubled from Kuwait city in 2012, and the launch of the new route to Sabiha airport in Istanbul.”
He added: “Our position as ‘Europe’s Best Airline,’ increasing connectivity, enhanced services and the rising popularity of Turkey as a holiday and business destination continue to attract a growing number of travellers from Kuwait. We wouldn’t be reporting such impressive growth without the support of our partners who we are honouring here today.”
In addition to plaques of appreciation, three specific sales achievements were awarded, with ‘Best in Sales,’ presented to Alshamel Travel & Tourism, ‘Best Business Class Sales,’ presented to Barakat Travel Co. And ‘Best beyond Turkey Sales,’ presented to Jumbo Tours & Travel Co, all in Kuwait
Adem Ceylan, Vice President Marketing & Sales for Turkish Airlines, Middle East & Cyprus, said: “In line with the airline’s global expansion and our recently launched ‘Widen Your World’ campaign, Turkish Airlines added 20 new destinations in 2013, and carried a total of 48.3 million passengers. Travellers from Kuwait, and across the region, are increasingly using Istanbul as a hub for international travel, taking advantage of the connections offered to more countries that any other airlines in the world.”
Additional plaques of appreciation were presented to acknowledge the integral role played by leading travel agents in the success of the airline’s growth in the region, including Al-Kazemi Travel Agencies, Jumbo Tours & Travel Co, Barakat Travel Co, Al Deera Travel & Tours, Al Mustaqbal Travel & Tourism, Boodai Aviation Travel Agency, Al-Waseet Travel & Tourism, Sayed Husssain Co & Son Travel Agency, Qiblah Travel & Tourism Co. and Salhia World Travel Agency.
A number of campaigns are offered exclusively for travel from Kuwait, the current promotion of 89 KWD return trip to Istanbul, inclusive of taxes and available to book until 16 April 2014, coincides with the tulip festival in April, a major highlight on the tourist trail as millions of flowers blanket the city’s open spaces celebrated with musical concerts and exhibitions.
At this year’s Arabian Travel Market, the global Carrier will highlight upcoming campaigns including the popular ‘Ramadan in Istanbul’ promotion. Further routes from Kuwait and the Gulf region will also be a focus, adding to the latest addition of ‘Rotterdam,’ the airline’s second destination in Holland.
Building on the recent growth achieved by Turkish Airlines in terms of passenger traffic there are now three flights daily from Kuwait City to Istanbul connecting Kuwaitis to more countries than any other airline with 246 destinations across 105 countries.
