Omran celebrates ‘Earth Day’ with launch of ‘Together We Protect Marine Life’ campaign in Khasab
In celebration of ‘Earth day’, Omran, in association with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) and Atana Khasab organised a creatively conceptualised conservational campaign in the Wilayat of Khasab entitled ‘Together We Protect Marine Life’.
The community driven event comes as part of Omran’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes for the year that consisted of a number of hands-on activities such as workshops for youth and adults as well as practical coral reef and beach clean-up sessions.
Over a billion people across the world take action every year on April 22nd to mark ‘Earth day’. This year, Omran, alongside with Atana Khasab, celebrated ‘Earth day’ with the local community in the Wilayat of Khasab by building awareness of the importance of protecting the Sultanate’s rich and beautiful marine life, cleaning the beaches in the area in addition to coral reef cleaning.
Earth Day 2014 focuses on the unique environmental challenges of our time, the need to create sustainable communities is more important than ever. With investments in sustainable technology, forward-thinking public policy, and an educated and active public, we can transform our Oman and forge a sustainable future.
Eng. Abdul Wahid Al Farsi, VP External Affairs at Omran said that the campaign aims to raise awareness and safeguard the exquisite coral reefs and marine life in the Wilayat by instilling eco-friendly practices amongst the community and particularly children to encourage responsible citizenship at a young age.
Al Farsi explained that for two consecutive days, ‘Together We Protect Marine Life’ involved a series of awareness lectures and workshops at the Omani Women’s Association in Khasab and Qada and Khasab schools, coupled with coral reef cleaning led by Omran and MECA volunteer divers and facilitated by Atana Khasab staff at Khasab Port as well as beach clean-ups at Qada and Al Bassa beach.
Al Farsi went on to express his enthusiasm to see Atana Khasab champion this initiative and live by its ethos of being a responsible Omani hotel chain that revolves around the local community and showcasing Oman’s rich cultural heritage and unique natural environment. The exciting initiative brings Omran’s newly rebranded hotel, Atana Khasab, the local community, government institutions and civil societies together with one goal in mind to protect Oman’s rich and unique natural environment.
