Rotana hotels go dark in support of Earth Hour
Rotana, along with its three hotels in Lebanon, showed commitment by switching off all lights in common areas in support of Earth Hour, the global movement organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature). In this famous lights out event, held on March 29, 2014 at 8:30 pm, Rotana raised awareness of global energy efforts and the importance of energy conservation.
Expanding on many sustainability efforts and initiatives to a sustainable business practice across their properties, Rotana demonstrated its pledge towards the society and environment. “I am proud to announce that Rotana Lebanon is taking part and showing their support behind Earth Hour, an organization dedicated to help save the planet and raise funds and organize great projects just for this purpose alone,” said Joseph Coubat, Area Vice President of Amman, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar and General Manager of City Centre Rotana.
“Earth Hour is truly an inspiration and helps motivate people to think about the place they are living in and what to do to contribute to our precious planet,” added Coubat.
Gefinor Rotana, Raouche Arjaan by Rotana and Tamar Rotana were all involved in supporting this worldwide interconnected global community that shares the opportunities and challenges of creating a sustainable world.
Candles were placed in the lobbies and main social areas of the hotels to replace electricity along with signs to shed light and raise awareness on the importance of conserving energy. In addition, a special menu was offered at the ‘Olive Garden’ and ‘Moodz’ in Gefinor Rotana.
A cocktail reception also took place at ‘Murjan’ in Raouche Arjaan by Rotana where guests were welcomed to light candles and make wishes amid live acoustic guitar music. Furthermore, light food was served and passed around in recyclable and environmentally-friendly plates, cups and napkins at Tamar Rotana with a lamp-shaped mascot circling around, an in-house competition for guests, and informative presentations on the hotel’s energy consumption demonstrating the amount of energy saving achieved during this one hour event, and how to improve and efficiently save energy from this day forward.
