HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has reiterated the Authority’s keenness to tap the booming Spanish tourism market and strengthen tourism promotion cooperation and exchange between the two destinations.

Al Noman said, “Sharjah’s interest in Spain’s tourism market is reflected in its regular participation in key tourism exhibitions and dedicated trade forums in Spain, aimed at increasing tourism exchange and investments and expanding the size of the Emirate’s tourism share in the region.”

This came during Al Noman’s meeting with HE Marta Blanco, Director, Tourism Authority of Spain, on the sidelines of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain on Sunday. Al Noman and Blanco discussed the industry trends and developments in Sharjah and Spain and latest trends and challenges faced by the global industry. They discussed ways and measures to attract more international tourists and increase the tourism market share year on year.

Al Noman lauded the growing importance of the FITUR exhibition saying the platform offers a great opportunity to promote and showcase Sharjah’s tourism product in this major international market.

He stressed, “In view of the importance of the tourism fair in the Spanish capital, the SCTDA looked forward to the exhibition and is participating for the third year in a row. The distinct Spanish tourism exhibition offers an ideal platform and opportunity to highlight what Sharjah’s tourism experience has to offer for European and global travelers.”

Al Noman pointed out, “With the launch of direct flights from the UAE to Spanish destinations such as Madrid and Barcelona; there has been a significant increase in Spanish tourist arrivals in the country. The UAE tourism market in general and Sharjah in particular because of its rich heritage and cultural activities today enjoys a special position in the Spanish tourism markets. In this respect, the Authority has introduced special Spanish language publications to reach out to this particular market.”

Al Noman also briefed the Spain Tourism Authority Director on the Sharjah Light Festival, being hosted by the Authority from February 6-14 for the fourth consecutive year, which coincides with the celebrations of Sharjah’s crowning as the capital of Islamic Culture for 2014. The SCTDA Chairman invited Ms Blanco to visit Sharjah with a delegation of Spain Tourism during the Festival.
