Dubai Quality Group votes Dr. Wafi Dawood as new Chairman
Dr. Dawood – who was the Vice Chairman of DQG until now – will assume his new responsibility as Chairman of DQG beginning January 2009.
The election took place at the Le Meridien Hotel, Opposite Dubai Airport yesterday (Monday, December 15, 2008).
The election results were announced after a successful Annual General Meeting wherein DQG’s various achievements over the last 12 months were presented and discussed.
Each member of the Board of Directors serves a two-year tenure before a new board is elected by the directors and by the Group’s active members. The rest of the new board members comprise: Osama Al Rahma, Vice Chairman; Khalid Al Jowder, Secretary General; Saad Maniar, Finance Director; and Board Members – Maryam Ali Althani Alfalasi, Ravi Mohan and Saleh Ahmed Janeeh.

This is certainly a privilege for me to be part of an organisation whose main objective is to promote the common interest of the society through a scientific and quality-oriented approach. Along with my fellow new officers for the term 2009-2010, I look forward to serving this organisation and realising its lofty goals and aspirations for the greater good of Dubai and the UAE.”

Dr. Dawood has been directly involved in initiatives related to quality in the last five years, during which he has built a strong network with government and private organisations.
The new DQG Chairman, who holds a Ph.D. in Performance Management from the University of Sunderland in the UK, has been responsible for establishing DQG’s Performance Management Subgroup and has published several papers about performance management in international conferences.
Dr. Dawood was also the Director of Corporate Performance & Quality at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC); he assisted DP World to win the Dubai Government Excellence Program – Golden Category and achieve high level of excellence; and he worked in several excellence consultancy projects with national and international bodies such as the Sheikh Saqr Excellence Program and Somerst Research Analysis.
Dr. Dawood has also received a number of awards: in 2004 he was awarded by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as the Distinguished Employee of Dubai in the specialised job category rewarding his initiatives in implementing best practices in Dubai; and in 2005 he was selected for H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid leadership program.
“I have developed a wide network of partnerships across different sectors, which will definitely help me in my efforts to enhance DQG’s role in the society. I have likewise set key objectives throughout the course of my tenure, including the creation of more networking opportunities for members to exchange ideas and benchmark best practices; providing consultancy services to members through the Subgroups; and encouraging R&D in the field of quality and have special awards for it. With the support of the Board and the members of DQG, I am confident that we will be able to accomplish our goals and set new benchmarks for the Group.”

Mr. Marwan Al Sawaleh, the outgoing Chairman of DQG, commented: “It is with great confidence and trust that I pass on the responsibility of steering this organisation to the new Board of Directors led by DQG’s new Chairman Dr. Wafi Dawood.
