Stephen Forster joins the firm from Hassans, the largest law firm in Gibraltar, and previously spent over 15 years as a partner at leading City of London firm CMS Cameron McKenna. He has over 25 years corporate finance, M&A, projects and infrastructure experience, including acting on significant projects in the UK, Holland, Scandinavia, Central Europe, Gibraltar, and the Far East. He was one of the lead lawyers on the team acting for a successful bidder on the London Underground Public Private Partnership, the most complex PPP deal in Europe. He also led the legal team advising on the construction and financing of one of the first project financed power plants in Central Europe, as well as the legal team advising bidders to construct the M6 motorway in Hungary on a PPP basis.

As head of the Abu Dhabi office, Stephen will use his significant expertise to ensure the firm capitalises on the growth of infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi, as the Emirate develops as a key commercial hub for the region.

Al Tamimi also welcomes the return of Tara Marlow, who rejoins the firm as head of the property and hospitality practice in Abu Dhabi. She was previously Vice President Legal, of the hotel division of Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC, Dubai’s largest retail and hotel property developer, where she was responsible for the legal function supporting a hotel and residence development and asset management portfolio of approx 3,500 rooms across the MENA region.

Abu Dhabi has placed considerable emphasis on developing its tourism and leisure markets in 2009 and significant numbers of hotel and leisure complexes will be built in the Emirate in the next 2-3 years. Tara’s expertise will provide a strong platform for the firm’s growth in this rapidly expanding sector.

Associate Khaled Al Hayyas joins from Bu Jseem law firm and specialises in commercial and penal labour law. He received his Bachelor of Law from the Dubai Police Academy in 2004.

Welcoming Stephen, Tara, and Khaled to the firm, Senior Partner Essam Al Tamimi commented: “Abu Dhabi is one of the leading economies in the region. We already have a strong platform there and Stephen’s leadership and commercial infrastructure experience, coupled with Tara’s focus on the property, hotel and leisure sectors, will ensure the office meets our clients’ needs and drives forward our growth in Abu Dhabi. With Khaled’s appointment we also enhance our strong local law capability.”

Managing Partner Husam Hourani added: “Over the years we have placed considerable emphasis on supporting the government and government owned entities, as well as local, regional and international companies. These appointments will enable us to further strengthen our ability to support the development of the Emirate’s infrastructure.”

Commenting on his arrival, Stephen Forster said: “I am delighted to be joining a law firm that is as well known and respected as Al Tamimi & Company, and particularly to be in Abu Dhabi at such a significant and exciting time in its development. There will be major opportunities here in the years to come and Al Tamimi is well positioned to take advantage of significant growth in the Emirate.”
