Canon Middle East, a world leader in imaging solutions, supported the 11th CSR Summit in Dubai. The event, which has fostered award-winning entrepreneurial and sustainable initiatives, aligns with Canon’s commitment to incorporate strategic and humanitarian CSR activities across all elements of its business.

The CSR Summit aims to generate successful partnerships and entrepreneurial initiatives to empower the next generation. This year the event will offer several workshops covering topics such as: Building a CSR program to engage stakeholders for meaningful impact, how to turn CSR into a revenue generating model, measuring social impact and a 360 degree perspective of CSR’s role in corporate, institution entrepreneur and SME settings.

At the summit, Canon Emirates is showcasing its advanced technology safeguards available to businesses to protect sensitive information. Additionally, the team will highlight the value of Managed Print Service (MPS) for improving document security, outputs workflows and reducing environmental impact for SMEs as well as larger corporations.

Anurag Agrawal, Canon Middle East Managing Director, said, “At Canon, we implement the philosophy of Kyosei, which encourages our employees and partners to live and work together for the common good, into every aspect of our business. Our sponsorship of the 2014 CSR Summit allows us to share the advanced technology safeguards and MPS solutions available to businesses in the region. These solutions not only benefit the business, but also incorporate conservation methods that can contribute to a strategic corporate social responsibility plan. Canon always aims to grow its business responsibly while supporting wider economic growth. We believe that a sustainable business integrates the interests of society with consideration for the environment and actively engages with the communities it works and operates in.”

Canon’s CSR activities fall under three categories: Business, environment and society. As part of its Kyosei mission, the company strives to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the Canon Group at all stages of production lifecycle, from materials procurement to disposal and recycling. Canon was the first company to acquire certification under Japan’s Carbon Footprint Program for multifunction office systems. Also, they were recertified to ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, underpinned by Canon’s clear targets set to manage the environmental impact of its products and operations across the region.

Canon continues to invest heavily in sustainable best practices. In addition to being awarded the Dubai Chamber CSR Label in 2012 and 2013, the company was recognized for the ‘Best Environmental Practices in the Arab World’ award by the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility.

Other initiatives include Canon’s participation in the Dubai Marathon where 65 employees showed their community spirit and love for sports by running alongside the world’s elite athletes. More recently, the company trained young Emiratis on photography equipment to showcase their abilities during the Have-a-Go competition of the 2014 Emirates Skills exhibition.

Canon Middle East serves as an active partner in the communities it operates in, by working with governments, scientific, academic, humanitarian, and arts and culture organisations, to integrate corporate social responsibility across all elements of the business.
