EFECO joint venture awarded Dhs878m mechanical and electrical contract at Abu Dhabi Airport

Arabtec Holding PJSC, an engineering and construction Group of companies specialising in complex projects in the Middle East and North Africa region, announced that its subsidiary, Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company “EFECO”, has been awarded a joint venture contract to carry out mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work at the new Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal Building (MTB).

The 700,000 square meter terminal building is one of the key strategic infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. It will accommodate up to 65 aircraft, including the Airbus A?380, with an expected capacity of 30 million passengers per year. Check?in will provide 165 conventional counters and 48 self?service kiosks capable of handling 8,500 passengers, both arriving and departing per hour.

The MTB project is currently under construction by a joint venture of Arabtec Construction, TAV Construction, and Consolidated Contractors International, which awarded the Dhs878m contract for MEP work to a joint venture of EFECO, BK Gulf, and China State. EFECO will play a full role in delivering the complex mechanical scope of the project.

EFECO became a 100% owned subsidiary of Arabtec in October 2013, when Arabtec Construction completed the acquisition of the remaining 45% stake in the Company. The move was In line with Arabtec’s strategy of growing its MEP capabilities. Following the acquisition, Arabtec Holding injected Dhs500m into the company’s share capital to grow the business by investing in equipment and machinery, enabling EFFECO to bid for higher value projects, and expand into other Gulf countries as well as Egypt and other North African countries.

Established in 2001, EFECO offers MEP services to the construction industry in the Middle East through its operations in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Company provides design, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning services for electrical, air conditioning, plumbing, sanitary works, instrumentations, telecommunication and fire-fighting systems in residential and commercial developments. The Company also provides expertise in the infrastructure sector, including road works, paving, sewage, drainage, irrigation and landscaping works.
