As part of its summer campaign ‘Set to 24°C and Save’ aiming at raising awareness among Dubai community on the need to conserve environment resources by adopting environmentally-friendly practices and behaviours, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (EMPOWER), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has saved almost 18.9% of district cooling consumption in July 2015 compared with the same period last year.

HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower, said Empower aims to encourage the society to use natural resources responsibly.

He added: “Our summer campaign enhances environmental green practices and contribute in accelerating the sustainable development of Dubai.”

HE Bin Shafar said: “This significant decrease in consumers’ consumption reflects the community’s response to the campaign. Empower is pleased from the results of the first two months of the campaign which show that tips highlighted in the campaign helped to conserve district cooling consumption.”

Earlier in June, the first month of this outreach campaign, Empower has registered savings of 16.4% compared with same period last year.

“We achieved significant results in the first two months of the campaign and we expect similar results in August and September,” Bin Shafar emphasized.

Through this community outreach campaign, Empower provided tips such as setting the room temperature to 24°C, in addition to other recommendations that helped to conserve district cooling consumption especially during peak times in summer.

He added: “Our efforts in urging our customers to be responsible towards the environment have paid off. We are delighted from the rapidly increasing response from our customers. The campaign aims to raise our customers’ awareness on how to benefit from the district cooling services with least energy consumption where the main guideline of this campaign is to set the temperature on 24°C.”

Empower is gauging the response to this campaign in projects like Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), Business Bay area and International Media Production Zone (IMPZ).

Bin Shafar added: “We thank all who are contributing in supporting our eco-commitment and social responsibility and we urge our customers to demonstrate their commitment by following our guidelines in the summer campaign.”

Currently, around 746 buildings are using Empower district cooling services, catering to 50,000 customers.
