The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) organized a free lecture last evening on the topic, ‘Energy, Sustainability and Living – a perspective from the Quality viewpoint’. The auditorium was filled to capacity as a good number of people turned up to attend the lecture.

The terms Energy and Electricity are often used interchangeably although Electricity is only one form of Energy along with thermal, mechanical, hydropower, solar, nuclear, wind, etc. Because electricity is the most widely used energy and is primarily produced using non-renewable and environment degrading sources, the need to look into other and sustainable sources has grown more acute. This is especially so under the growing threat of Climate Change. The other issue to be considered is how to optimize energy by rationalizing the need for high or low quality energy for a particular kind of application or use. The talk focussed on this interesting persecptive and the concept of Energy Quality and Application.

The leture was presented by Sarfraz H. Dairkee, the General Manager, Corporate Development & Engineering of MAHY Khoory & Co. A Mechanical and Marine engineer with 30 years of hands-on professional experience in a wide-range of technologies, Mr. Dairkee is a LEED accredited professional, a founding board member and Secretary of the Emirates Green Building Council and heads the Technical Sub Committee of Water Efficiency. He is a Senior Member of the Association of Energy Engineers, ASHRAE and International Desalination Association.
