Jewellery maison Van Cleef & Arpels announces the finalists of the Middle East Emergent Artist Prize 2015 in association with art gallery Tashkeel and Design Days Dubai.

The finalists were selected after presenting projects under the theme, Functional and Conceptual Design. They were chosen from over seventy applicants from a range of counties across the GCC.

“At Van Cleef & Arpels, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest level of creativity and craftsmanship, which is mirrored in many of the maison’s timeless creations. The efforts of the finalists have replicated a similar essence of originality, and so far the competition has mirrored this,” says Alban Belloir, managing director Middle East & India, Van Cleef & Arpels.

Amongst the participants were students, college professors and interior designers. One of the entries that made it to the final is by Italian Ivan Parati, a Dubai-based Science and Technology teacher at Ajman University, whose TileTable is a modular coffee table with traditional Islamic elements.

UAE-based trio, Merehan Kika, Maryam Sherif and Sultan Alqasimi, submitted a rendering of their concept – Luminous Waves, a set of organic and flexible wood light installations that play with shadows.

“We are extremely impressed with the level of creativity and personal integrity expressed in the submitted artworks. Design Days Dubai is pleased to be a part of a project that creates opportunities for individuals from across the Middle East, nurturing their talents and further developing their artistic muses,” says Cyril Zammit, fair director of Design Days Dubai.

The winning artist will earn AED30,000 to fund the making of their final product, as well as a seven-day trip to Paris to attend L’ECOLE Van Cleef & Arpels, where tuition will be provided by the maison.

The winning artwork will be unveiled at the Van Cleef & Arpels stand during Design Days Dubai, March 16-20, 2015.
