August 31, 2018 8:00 am

One of Dubai’s premier – and perhaps, most unique – entertainment destinations is just weeks away from its grand opening.

Following a series of ‘soft opening’ events, the legendary Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) will be opening its doors to the public fully in October.

Permanently docked at Dubai’s Port Rashid, Deira, the 13-deck QE2 floating hotel will boast luxury rooms, restaurants and bars, and world-class entertainment attractions.

Following a lengthy restoration period, many of the boat’s original features have been maintained. Guests will find themselves staring out to sea through original porthole windows, while period furniture, paintings and famous memorabilia are displayed throughout the hotel. Visitors can learn more about the vessel’s
50-year history by joining one of the heritage tours, running several times a day.

From small ‘cabin’-style rooms to Royal Suites once belonging to Queen Elizabeth II herself, the QE2 offers guests 13 room and suite categories to choose from a total of 224 rooms. The two Royal Suites – named after the Queen’s mother and grandmother – each offer a private veranda, conservatory, dining room and luxurious bedroom.

The hotel’s signature restaurant is The Queen’s Grill, which serves quintessential British fare and dishes from 1969 – the year the QE2 took her maiden voyage. Think lobster, smoked salmon, beef tenderloin and risotto. The Pavilion, boasting an impressive terrace overlooking the marina, is a family friendly restaurant as is Lido, offering all-day dining.

Historical lounge and bar The Chart Room is the perfect venue for pre- and post-dinner drinks, while The Golden Lion serves English tradition and history in abundance, decorated the same as it was back in its heyday. The cabaret-style Grand Lounge offers a weekly entertainment programme and the Yacht Club a fabulously British afternoon tea. Expect more dining venues to be added come October.

With a chic shopping arcade, spa, theatre and cinema also planned – there is also talk of a swimming pool being added as an extension to the vessel – the QE2 is looking set to sail straight to the top of Dubai’s must-visit hotels of 2018. And stay on course as a premier destination well into next year as well.

Best of British
Following the success of it summer brunches, The Lido, located on the QE2’s quarterdeck, will soon be hosting regular Friday brunches that the whole family can enjoy. Fit for king, queen, prince and princesses, The Lido will be serving up classic British roast dishes, along with fresh seafood and salads, delectable desserts and an impressive selection of cheeses. There’s also a special kids’ buffet, complete with candyfloss and ice cream machine, plus live entertainment.
