The Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) — the Middle East’s largest integrated publishing company — announced the appointment of Faisal J. Abbas as editor-in-chief of its English-language daily, Arab News.

The forty-one-year-old Saudi daily has signaled the beginning of its global and digital expansion by hiring Abbas, who previously served as the editor-in-chief of Al Arabiya English, the English-language news service of Al Arabiya news channel.

Ever since his move from London to Dubai in 2012, Abbas has become known as ‘Mr Arabiya English’. Under his leadership, the online portal has grown to target the English-speaking demographic as well as digital-savvy audiences through new offerings such as blogs and original subtitling and transcript services for the Arabic channel.
