Wataniya Telecom sponsors Kuwait Social Media Summit

The second annual Kuwait Social Media Summit launches at the JW Marriot Hotel, sponsored by Wataniya Telecom, a member of Ooredoo Group. The two-day event features a variety of lectures and workshops by renowned international and regional experts. Targeting government officials, business owners and marketers among other professionals, the summit covers a variety of topics related to social networking. Topics include social media bullying, social media crisis management, and establishing effective social media campaigns.

“We believe that the closer we are to our customers, the better we are at meeting their needs,” says Wataniya Telecom GM and CEO Eng. Abdulaziz Fakhroo. “Social media has obliterated the gap between customers and service providers, and we believe in raising awareness and empowering local social media channels by bringing renowned expertise and opening the floor for discussion about this subject,” adds Fakhroo. He notes that Wataniya Telecom’s participation in this event stems from the company’s belief in the importance of social networking in this day and age, especially since it attracts the largest number of users.

Ema Linaker, regional director at Social@Ogilvy will present a study that covers the key elements of what makes a great social media campaign. “A question like this is worth pondering especially today, as Facebook is the size of China and WhatsApp is the most expensive company purchase in recent history,” says Linaker.

Director of global business strategy at Canadian firm t2 Marketing Solutions, Corey Padveen, will be leading a workshop on social media monitoring. The workshop will discuss the necessary tools needed for executing an effective social media strategy. Ibrahim El Badawi, founder and CEO of Exantium, a UAE-based government advisory firm focusing on e-government strategy and policy design, will lead a workshop on e-participation campaigns. The workshop will include a step-by-step guide on designing and executing a successful campaign and engaging audience.

The summit is organized in cooperation with the Central Agency for Information Technology under the patronage of Sheikh Salman Al-Hmoud Al-Sabah, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs. It attracts over 200 private and public sector communication professionals from Kuwait and the GCC region. Other key contributors and supporters of the summit include Socialobby, Exantium, MEPRA, Booz & Co, Skynews Arabia and Ipsos.
