The Asian Banker’s first annual Middle East and Africa Awards Ceremony was held at the Ritz Carlton DIFC, Dubai on April 30th 2014. Over 130 senior bankers from 20 banks across Middle East and Africa attended this inaugural event, graced by His Excellency Sultan Abu Sultan, Chairman of Barclays Bank in the UAE.

The Asian Banker’s Middle East and Africa Awards are acknowledged by the financial services industry as the highest possible accolade available to professionals and banks in the industry in the Middle East and Africa.

Award-winning banks attended the glittering event that recognised their efforts in bringing superior products and services to their customers, with top prizes for Best Retail Banks, Best Non-Bank Consumer Finance Company and Best Improved Retail Banks being given out on behalf of The Asian Banker by His Excellency.

The Middle East and Africa awards received 150 submissions from 65 banks in retail banking, transaction banking and technology implementation. A stringent three-month evaluation process based on a balanced and transparent scorecard was used to determine the winners in each category. Winners were then selected by a panel of advisors, industry leaders, practitioners, and academics, based on the in-depth submissions as well as industry interviews conducted by the Asian Banker Research team.

Winners were benchmarked against a robust scorecard and international standards in each of their respective categories. The goal of the award programmes is to track the changing competitive landscape in each industry, identify critical success factors in the different businesses tracked as well as develop a repository of benchmarks and best practices that industry players as a whole can use and improve upon.
