The 2014 ADIB Future Champions League continued in style at the weekend, with the second leg of the tournament taking place at Al Jazira FC. Some 280 children from Abu Dhabi competed in the UAE’s only National football tournament for schools and academies.

23 different teams competed across three different age categories. There was some fantastic football on display and 2 teams from each age category qualified for the Finals Day in March.

Presented by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, the Official Bank of the AGL, this grassroots football scheme began in 2013, and will give over 1,000 children from right across the UAE the chance to take part in four different competitive qualifying tournaments this year, hosted by top AGL clubs. The scheme encourages participation from children from 12 – 16 years old, and is supported by the Pro League Committee, as well as Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Dubai Sports Council.

Petr Klimes, EVP and Group Marketing Director at ADIB, commented, “It gives us huge pleasure to see these children taking part in the ADIB Future Champions League. We are committed to supporting the future of the UAE’s youth and the development of active and healthy lifestyle through football. Football is a great game that also helps instil values of teamwork and personal discipline in kids. There are many very talented young players right across the country and we want to give them the opportunity to take part in a professionally run FIFA-style competition. I would not be surprised if some of these children turn out to be the future champions of UAE football.”

All participating schools received ADIB football kits, as well as certificates, lunches & refreshments, prizes for the winners, and a special reward from ADIB for all of the children to help set them up with a sound financial education.

The tournament continues with the next 2 qualifying legs taking place in Dubai and Sharjah, before the Finals Day in March.
