Central to on-going efforts to positively contribute to the community by spreading awareness and encouraging a culture of environmentally responsible citizens, Bank Sohar recently issued a 2014 Year Calendar in association with Environment Society of Oman. The calendar, entitled ‘Saving Water, Electricity… And Our Planet’ emphasises the impact of our daily water and electricity consumption on the environment and provides 12 easy to implement tips for energy efficient living.

Highlighting the importance of leading an environmentally responsible lifestyle Mrs. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, the DGM of Human Resource and Corporate Support noted, “The 2014 calendar was designed to create awareness to reach out to all segments of society in a creative way. It conveys short, yet effective messages to encourage people to reconsider their water and electricity consumption habits and to draw attention to the little details that can transform the way we consume resources, for the wellbeing of our planet.”

The Bank Sohar 2014 Calendar showcases twelve easy tips on the helping minimise water and energy wastage, benefitting not only the environment but reducing reliance on precious resources. The easy to follow tips require only minor changes in one’s daily habits, and include messages such as; enabling the ‘stand-by mode’ feature on your computer to allow it to use less power during periods of inactivity, repairing leaky faucets and pipes where on an average 14% of water in the Sultanate is wasted, and set the thermostat of your air conditioner to 23 Celsius or higher to reduce the cost of running an AC unit year round. Implementing these and the other water and energy saving tips as featured in the calendar will help lessen the wastage of precious resources in the Sultanate.

“We at Bank Sohar are committed to the conservation of energy and resources, and that is evident in all of our business practices. In line with this commitment, we reaffirm our belief that little changes can make a big difference and therefore invite the public to support this initiative by putting these simple tips into practice,” added Mrs. Munira Abdulnabi Macki.

This environmental awareness calendar is the latest initiative by Bank Sohar as part of its on-going corporate social responsibility. Since its inception in 2007, the Bank has been involved in numerous CSR initiatives that not only contribute to the sustainability of the environment and improvement of society, but also join hands with all segments of society to positively contribute to good causes.
