Bank Sohar website wins Strategic Award from Oman Web Awards

Bank Sohar, as a testament to its technological prowess and commitment to excellence, was the only financial institution to be presented with the ‘Strategic Award’ for their website ( at the recently held 8th edition of The Oman Web Awards. The competition was created to recognise excellence in web design and web development skills, while ultimately encouraging a greater awareness towards digital communication in all sectors of the economy.

The 8th edition of The Oman Web Awards (OWA) Ceremony 2014 took place at the Majan Ballroom in Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, under the auspicious of H.E. Hamood Sangour Al Zadjali, the Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO). Receiving the ‘Strategic Award’ on stage for the Bank was Dr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz Kalmoor, CEO of Bank Sohar. Also representing the Bank at the event were Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM-Human Resources and Corporate Support, along with other executive and senior members of the Bank.

Commenting on this achievement, Dr. Mohamed Abdulaziz Kalmoor said, “We are proud and honoured to have our corporate website recognised with the ‘Strategic Award’. This award, marking the 12th award that the Bank’s website has received, is a testament to our technological development and our ongoing commitment in delivering excellence in all our endeavours.”

The Strategic Award at the OWA was one of two awards the Bank Sohar Website has won this year alone; it was also awarded the Strategic Award under Banks and Financial Institutions Category from the Lebanon based Pan Arab Excellence Awards Academy at the recently held 11th Pan Arab Web Awards in UAE. The Bank has also won several other awards this year including the ‘The Diamond Eye Award for Quality, Commitment & Excellence’ from the France based Otherways Management & Consulting Association, while Bank Sohar and the CEO were named ‘Best Financial Brand Oman 2014’ and ‘Best Banking CEO Oman 2014’ respectively by renowned UK based Global Brands Magazine. These awards, and the others achieved by the Bank in the past are a testament to the solid foundation that the Bank has been built upon and a reflection of the leadership style as well as its strong position as a financial institution and brand within the financial sector in the Sultanate.

Organised by the SJS Group (Oman), under the patronage of the Information Technology Authority (e.oman) and in association with Microsoft and Business Software Alliance (BSA), the OWA has a distinguished panel of judges comprising groups of university professors and specialists in the field who voted in accordance to a special designated guideline following international standards. The judging procedures passed through two-phases in order to reach a correct and transparent grading. The Bank Sohar website scored consistently across all parameters to emerge as the overall winner of the Strategic Award under Financial Institutions & Banking Category.
