Building upon its effort to support the UAE community, Barclays recently collaborated with Beit Al Khair, a humanitarian beneficial entity in the UAE, to donate 30 refurbished computers to orphan families. The partnership aims to create an environment in which orphans in crisis can expand their knowledge and enhance their lives through technology.

The initiative is driven by the values of the Barclays corporate citizenship program and focuses on financial literacy, employability and life skills. The program asserts Barclays efforts to constantly support the community.

Andrew Mortimer, Chief Operating Officer, Middle East & North Africa at Barclays, said, “Barclays is committed to supporting the communities in which it operates. We are delighted to be associated with Beit Al Khair and to be able to provide youngsters with the tools to prepare them for the future. By providing these children with computers, we open up a world of possibilities and encourage academic excellence. Given the challenging situation of these children, it is important to arm them with life skills that will support them as they discover a professional work life.”

Abdeen Taher Al Awadi, General Manager, Beit Al Khair Society added “Our long standing collaboration with Barclays in the UAE has greatly contributed to the educational development of orphans in our society. We appreciate Barclays’ involvement through donations and employee engagement programs and hope to continue our relationship with more initiatives in the coming years.”

Barclays champions donation campaigns whenever opportunity arises and is committed to the education and development of youth within society. The bank has previously been associated with various initiatives such as the Boxes of Goodness, which is a Ramadan activity in which employees raised funds and basic food ingredients for underprivileged families in the country.

Additionally, Barclays encourages colleagues to give their time and skills to benefit their local communities. The employees have volunteered their time and skills towards the orphans at Beit Al Khair by organizing trips for the orphans to Ski Dubai, giving gifts and souvenirs and joining social occasions. The employees have also encouraged education of orphan children by sharing new and used books to drive literacy.

The Beit Al Khair Society aims to aid the poor and vulnerable including widows, orphans, low-income families, and the families of disabled and special needs.
