Abu Dhabi University launches its five-year Strategic plan 2014 -2019 aimed at achieving operational and academic excellence

Abu Dhabi University recently launched its new five-year strategic plan 2014 -2019, which includes several new academic initiatives in teaching, scientific research and community service. Aimed at achieving operational and academic excellence on every level by continuing to attract top achieving students and distinguished faculty members from the finest institutions of higher education around the world, the newly announced strategic plan puts students’ interests at the center of the educational process in a manner that contributes to their intellectual and professional growth. Abu Dhabi University’s 2nd five-year strategic plan since its inception in 2003, also oversees the inauguration of several centers of excellence in scientific research in collaboration with business and industry sectors, as well as plans to launch new academic programs in law, pharmacy and a variety of existing programs at ADU that will also be offered in Arabic. Striving to achieve a higher rank in Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) top 650 universities in the world is also one ADU’s main goals for 2014-2019, as well as developing its current campus in Al Ain and the inauguration of a third campus in Dubai.

The announcement was made during a meeting held on the University’s Abu Dhabi campus in the presence of H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Directors, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Terry Motiuk Vice Chancellor of ADU and Dr. Aly Nazmy Interim Provost and Dean of ADU’s College of Engineering.

Addressing the gathering, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Directors asserted the University’s keenness in implementing the five-year strategic plan and its various academic initiatives in education, research, community service, the development of new undergraduate and postgraduate program and ensuring a world-class quality education. Bin Harmal pointed out that the five-year plan addressed 6 strategic goals including: 1- creating a student-centered learning environment conducive to intellectual and professional student growth, 2- meeting the needs of ADU’s stakeholders and being responsive contributors to the community, 3- achieving academic excellence on every level though gaining international accreditation from reputable international agencies, 4- achieving operational excellence by creating a service oriented organization, 5- nurturing a creative, pleasant culture and learning environment through attracting world-renowned faculty and staff, as well as 6- investing in growth and enhancing the University’s infrastructure to advance operational efficiency.

Bin Harmal added that working to achieve the University’s strategic goals for 2014-2019 requires hard work and dedication, as well as the design and launch of new academic programs that meet the needs of the labor market of qualified professionals, who can fulfill the UAE’s government strategy and policy agenda as well as its Economic Vision 2030. “The new strategic plan will also give Abu Dhabi University the chance to expand the scope of its services to Dubai a well as explore the world of e-learning and provide more students from different countries the opportunity to attain a world-class degree in any of the fields offered at ADU. The University will also develop more partnerships with other higher education institutions and research centers from around the world to share experiences and develop joint programs, as well as collaborating with industry through developing programs that can fill the gap between the business sector and the labor market”, said Bin Harmal.

“Since its inception in 2003 under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents, and opening its doors to accept students for the first time in its relatively young history, Abu Dhabi University enrolled 852 students in 7 undergraduate programs. Today, we have more than 6000 students in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain enrolled in more than 26 undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Through the implementation of the innovative aspects of ADU’s five year strategic plan 2014 -2019, the University aims to attract around 8000 students by the year 2018 -2019”, concluded Bin Harmal.
