Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering receives international accreditation from ABET

Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering received international accreditation from the world-renowned prestigious Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, after its success in passing international standards and procedures implemented by the commission to ensure quality of education, curricula, learning outcomes and a high caliber of graduates.

Commenting on this new accolade, H.E Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Directors explained that receiving this prestigious international accreditation translates ADU’s mission and its eagerness to develop academic programs that meet the educational needs of the policy agenda of Abu Dhabi’s Government and its Economic Vision 2030. “It also confirms that Abu Dhabi University has set its benchmark in educational outcomes to meet international standards applied by prestigious universities and accreditation bodies that focus on a comprehensive educational system of quality in teaching, scientific research, and community service. As well as developing new partnerships with the business sector to provide it with graduates who have acquired the skills needed to excel in a knowledge-based economy. The international accreditation from ABET is an outstanding achievement that confirms the quality of our engineering programs, which were already accredited from the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE”, added Bin Harmal.

Receiving international accreditation has also been one of the main goals highlighted in Abu Dhabi University’s new 5 year strategic plan 2014 -2019. Bin Harmal pointed out that the University will continue to seek the highest international standards, through other programs offered at ADU in different disciplines which are currently also seeking international accreditation from specialized accreditation bodies.

On his part, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University said: “Receiving the ABET accreditation for the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering that are offered through ADU’s College of Engineering is such a wonderful start to the new semester of the upcoming academic year 2014 -2015. Especially as it coincides with the launch of our new strategic plan aimed at achieving operational and academic excellence on every level by continuing to attract top achieving students and distinguished faculty members from the finest institutions of higher education around the world, and puts students’ interests at the center of the educational process in a manner that contributes to their intellectual and professional growth”.

Dr. Ibrahim stressed that this accreditation confirms what everybody knows about the quality of academic programs offered by Abu Dhabi University in engineering, arts and sciences and business administration. “Perhaps further evidence lies in our graduate employment rates that have averaged at around 90%”, he concluded.

Interim Provost and Dean of ADU’s College of Engineering, Dr. Aly Nazmy asserted that receiving the international accreditation from that the renowned Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET was not an easy task, but one that required several years of hard work and diligence to complete the procedures for obtaining the accreditation. “It’s an accomplishment that could have not been possible without the participation of the faculty and staff of the three departments”, added Dr. Nazmy.
