AlixPartners, the global business-advisory firm, announced that Louis Besland has joined the firm’s global Energy Practice as a managing director. Besland, who will be based in AlixPartners’ office in Dubai, has deep experience in the worldwide oil, gas and chemical sectors. In total, he brings 27 years of consulting experience to his new position, including, in addition to his expertise in energy, significant strategy and operations expertise in logistics, infrastructure and government entities.

Besland joins AlixPartners from A.T. Kearney, where most recently he was a partner and head of the energy and process-industries practice, and also managing director of the Abu Dhabi office, for A. T. Kearney Middle East. Earlier at A.T. Kearney, he was a vice president and head of the energy and process-industries practice in that firm’s Paris office.

Said Fred Crawford, CEO of AlixPartners: “Building resilience and managing complexity are critical in today’s fast-moving, multifaceted energy sector. AlixPartners is purpose-built to help companies, owners and other stakeholders thrive during periods of rapid change. Louis brings tremendous experience to our global energy team, a team that has grown markedly of late, including our hiring last year of Dennis Cassidy, an ExxonMobil and Booz veteran based in Texas.”

Prior to A.T. Kearney, Besland was founder, chairman and CEO of management consulting firm Expertconsultant. While there he built a network of small consulting firms representing more than 100 consultants and covering a large range of management-consulting competencies. The company was sold in 2002.

Before that, Besland worked at Gemini Consulting, where he was a vice president and head of the oil, gas and chemicals practice for France. In that role, he also coordinated petrochemical business worldwide, and led major projects involving cost reduction, business transformation, manufacturing, supply-chain management, purchasing and marketing.

Said Besland: “AlixPartners has a wealth of talent globally across the energy-industry value chain, and I very much look forward to becoming a part of this fine team at this very important time for the global energy industry. Companies and sponsors in the Middle East, in particular, face all-new challenges and opportunities today, and AlixPartners’ results-oriented approach is well-suited to helping them minimize their challenges and maximize their opportunities.”

Besland has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics, and a master’s degree in electrochemical engineering, from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in Grenoble, France. He also was a deck officer in the Marine Nationale, France’s navy.
