Construction of a new state-of-the-art public hospital in Muharraq is set to kick off in 2015 as part of GCC Marshall Plan. The BD31m three-in-one complex will include a maternity section, a diabetes centre and a long stay facility. The Health Ministry has allocated BD16m to build the Muharraq maternity hospital which will accommodate 200 beds and operation theatres, in addition to care services for premature children, assistant under-secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea told Akhbar Al Khaleej. He said the maternity section at King Hamad University Hospital will continue to provide such services until construction work on the Muharraq maternity hospital is completed.
