Consumer electronics market in UAE to reach $4bn

The Consumer Electronics Association stated that the increased sale of tablets, smartphones and digital SLR cameras is expected to push UAE’s consumer electronics market to Dh16bn ($4.3bn) next year. Following this considerable and fast-growing appetite for consumer electronics, the Gitex Shopper 2014, the Middle East’s largest consumer IT and electronics show, which will run from September 27 to October 4 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Trade Arabia reported. The eight-day sales extravaganza will bring together the region’s power retailers and the world’s biggest electronic brands and is expected to attract more than 210,000 visitors. Mobile phone penetration remains strong across the Middle East and currently stands at 109%, some 19% higher than the global average and comfortably ahead of the US and Asia Pacific.
