Drydocks World and Maritime World, the international service provider to the maritime, oil & gas and energy sectors, hosted a group of students from the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Dubai Men’s College on April 17, 2014.

The students undertook a guided tour of the facility and were introduced to the various functions of the shipyard and had the opportunity of having a “first hand” look at some of the ‘world’s-first’ offshore construction projects taking shape.

The visit was part of Drydocks World & Maritime World’s initiative to encourage an increasing numbers of nationals to become involved in the marine, maritime, offshore oil, gas and energy sectors. The company has a well articulated Emiratisation strategy and plan which concentrates on taking nationals primarily in technical and professional areas at supervisory and management levels which affords strong opportunities for future growth.

The students were briefed on the various projects and their significance for the world oil, gas and energy sectors. They showed keen interest in various aspects of the facility, the core business activities and the various functions including the way the organization was structured and geared to achieve sustainable growth with a clear cut strategy to 2030. They were appreciative of the opportunity provided to them to visit the facility and expressed their admiration to the commitment shown by all members of staff in promoting localization and implementing high standards of productivity and efficiency in an extremely safe environment.

Hi Excellency Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World said, “We welcome the large scale interest in our facility especially from groups of students from local colleges. This provides us with an opportunity for exchange of thoughts and ideas and also encourages young minds to think seriously about building a career in the rapidly evolving maritime and offshore oil & gas and energy sector. With the various facilities available in the Group such as the DDW Training Centre, Emirates International Maritime Academy (EIMA), DCMMI, etc, we have ambitious plans to expand the opportunities available to young locals to plan their futures in this sector in conjunction with local, regional & international educational institutions.”
