Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry staff joined over 350 corporate volunteers from businesses and organisations across Dubai as part of the international Give & Gain Day today (Thursday).

Employee volunteers from 23 Dubai-based companies participated in various activities organised by 22 community partners to celebrate Give & Gain Day, which is organised in Dubai by Dubai Chamber’s Centre of Responsible Business under its ENGAGE Dubai initiative.

Twelve staff members from Dubai Chamber volunteered in an Innovation Day Camp, organised by Injaz UAE (a Member of Junior Achievement Worldwide) and hosted by Tejar Dubai, to provide entrepreneurship and leadership development for Emirati students.

Dr Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said: “Give & Gain Day is organised by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business as part of efforts to promote responsible business practices and encourage companies to make a difference in their communities through volunteering. Give & Gain Day is an opportunity for companies to harness the skills and energy of their workforce to help support the community.”

This year is the 4th year that ENGAGE Dubai has organised Give & Gain Day in Dubai. The day is a global celebration of the potential of employee volunteering, managed by Business in the Community-UK (BITC) that last year attracted 22,000 employees from 24 cities around the world.

Projects that took place across Dubai, included a session to provide exposure to the business environment for young students at the University of Dubai; cooking and jewellery-making with special needs children from the Manzil Center for Special Needs as well as maintenance work to improve its facilities; wrapping and distributing food parcels among needy sea farers as part of the Angel Appeal, a CV writing workshop with students at Dubai Men’s College, and a training and job shadow workshop for cancer survivors with Pure Heart 4 Cancer.

Samir Al Hadi, CEO & President at SamTech Middle East: “SamTech Management supports and encourages the employees volunteering day, from my side, I am participating in this event myself. The whole idea of employee volunteering is to connect the employees with their moral and motivate them by giving them the chance to do good things and feel good about themselves. Workplace is about connecting the employees’ goals and personal values to the company’s goals and values. And I thank Dubai Chamber Centre of Responsible Business of this opportunity.”

Kathryn Wightman-Beaven, Director – Global Corporate Responsibility, DP World, said: “Give & Gain is a great opportunity for companies to demonstrate responsible leadership in Dubai. By providing a variety of volunteering opportunities for employees Give & Gain creates an environment in which employees can actively participate and contribute to the community in which they live and work. It is the one day in the Dubai volunteering calendar where companies across Dubai can come together and make a difference.”
