The Dubai Derma Conference and Exhibition continues today in its 14th edition with huge attendance from conference participants and visitors who came across a number of international exhibitors displaying their latest equipments and products used in dermatology, plastic surgeries and laser treatments.

The exhibition witnesses this year more than 700 brands covering an overall space of 9000 square meter with a 20 % increase in size from the past year. This year, Dubai Dermahas seen remarkable presence by Asian countries especially South Korea where35 participating Korean Companies are present in the Korean Pavilion, which reflects the Korean interest in the Arab and Middle East market. On the conference side, the scientific specialized sessions and workshops continued for the second day with a great number of participation. The scientific program on the second day touched upon different topics including: Does PRP Grow hair, Therapeutic Options of Waterjet Technology in Body Sculpturing, Facial Surgery, and Aesthetic Dermatology, Discoid Lupus Erythematosis, and many more.

Dr. Hassan Galadari, Head of Scientific Committee of Dubai Derma Conference &Exhibition said: “No other field of medicine has seen much change during the past 5 years than that of dermatology. In addition to being highly involved in the medical, it has gone to encompass many difference facets including anti-ageing, cosmetic and even surgical. This year’s meeting is somewhat different as a number of our invited speakers are both medical and surgical dermatologists. This is important as the need to bridge the gap between the two different aspects is important especially with our new graduates and those who are newly entering the field.”

Dr. Hassan concluded: “It’s important not to lose the science behind the glamor of the aesthetics. I believe this year’s meeting, with the great speakers that we have, will help showcase this very well indeed.”

Dubai Derma 2014 continues until the 10th of April and is held in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority, the International Academy of Medical Specialisation, GCC League of Dermatology and the Pan Arab League of Dermatology, and it is organised by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions – member of INDEX Holding.

“Obalon” showcased at Dubai Derma
“Bringing Innovative and Safe Technology Solution for Weight Loss”

Al-Sultan Saudi Medical Company is displaying Obalon, the latest technology for weight loss without undergoing any complicated surgeries at Dubai Derma. The importance of this unprecedented technology is considered a scientific revolution in overweight treatment, playing a vital role in reducing obesity cases that have been spreading widely within the community.

Prof. Alfredo Genco, Policlinico Umberto Hospital – Sapienza University, highlighted how this novel non-surgical, fully reversible device for weight loss will offer a new and different approach for people who have struggled with dieting in the past but haven’t succeeded in losing weight. Prof. Genco explained that the Obalon capsule contains a balloon that is orally permitted and inflated to occupy the upper space in the stomach to create a feeling of fullness to help people eat less. Additional balloons can be swallowed and inflated during the treatment period depending on the response and needs of the patient. At the end of the treatment period, the balloons are removed through a short endoscopic procedure. The entire procedure takes only 15 minutes with no sedation required.

Studies have showed that patients, who used Obalon technology, lost an average of 7.4% of their total body weight and 41% of excess body weight within 12 weeks of the balloon application, which is approximately 8 to 12 kilos within 3 months.
