Emirates, Dubai Duty Free, and Middlesex Uni stamp early authority on Dubai Corporate Sports Tournament

Two weeks into the six-week programme, the Dubai Corporate Sports Tournament 2014 organisers have, officially announced the current standings in the six-sport competition.

Dominating the athletics events by topping the leader boards in the women’s 100 and 200 metres, as well as the 4x100m mixed relay races; Middlesex University (Dubai) are firmly setting the pace as early front-runners. The university is also the current leader in “Pool 1” (of three) in the “Basketball 3’s” – 3M and SCF being the other group leaders, at this point.

In the Cricket 8’s, only “Pool A” has teams who have played twice, so far, with Transmed winning two out of two and leading OSN, in second, by a total tournament ranking of 15 points to 10.

Emirates Airline “EK BCN” team are joint top of the ten-pin bowling league with 16 points, along with Emirates’ other team “EK BOS”, Chalhoub Group and Dubai Duty Free, but EK BCN currently stay top by virtue with a superior 257 total pin-fall advantage. Dubai Duty Free also tops its group in Pool 4 of the Soccer 7’s event, with a total of eight points and a three-point advantage over second-placed BCG.

Alongside Dubai Duty Free, the other leaders of their respective groups, in the Soccer 7’s tournament, are: Fitness First, Cadillac, Etisalat, Emrill FC LLC and Al Tayer.The six week-long corporate sports festival is a Dubai Sports Council initiative and held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council. Many of the UAE’s most renowned companies are part of the inaugural tournament. These include: Etisalat, du, Dubai Holding, OSN, Dubai Duty Free, Emirates Airline, 3M, Fitness First, and many more.

With six different sporting disciplines, including: athletics (100m and 200m); seven-a-side football; eight-a-side cricket; 3-on-3 basketball; touch-rugby and ten-pin bowling; teams meet and play every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings up, from 7:30pm until 10pm, up to the 13 March. The Touch Rugby competition will be held on one day, the Grand Finals Day, on 21st March. Apart from the ten-pin bowling, all events are being held at Dubai Sports City.
