Empower completes preparation for peak summer demand of district cooling
Empower, the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has completed pre-summer preparation works at its district cooling systems across Dubai, to ensure accuracy, efficiency and reliability for the upcoming peak season, it was announced today.
“Dubai’s economy has evolved into an ‘always-on’ culture, meaning that services have to be safe, secure and reliable,” said H.E Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer, Empower. “Leveraging the off-peak winter months, we at Empower have developed systems to ensure a consistent level of service to our around 50,000 of customers and 746 buildings, no matter the time of day or intensity of temperature.”
The preparation project has updated operations across Empower’s 1,045,000 Refrigeration Tonne (RT) district cooling network for the months from June to September, when scorching temperatures have traditionally led to peak demand for district cooling services.
System adjustments for the summer period include updates at Empower’s state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre that effect precise temperature control at units, smart calculators for accurate metering, bulk meter maintenance, and temperature sensor verification.
“These upgrades, which include operational adjustments and software upgrades, can track thousands of variables across many functions in our whole district cooling system,” explained Bin Shafar. “Our network is now protected from system disturbances, as we can now pinpoint irregularities at the touch of a button.”
Empower currently operates a 1,045,000 RT portfolio and it provides environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Batutta Shopping Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World trade Centre Residences, Dubai Design District, among others.
