The Environment Society of Oman (ESO) hosted its annual Ramadan Quiz Night to raise awareness of current research programs and conservation initiatives run by the society. Under the theme of ‘How Food Waste Affects Our Environment’, 35 from a variety of professional backgrounds competed on Tuesday 15th July at the Al Bahja Hall in Qurum to win exciting prizes, learn about ESO’s projects and what they can do to make a difference.

Suaad Al Harthi, ESO Project Manager, said, “This is a fun opportunity to learn more about wildlife in Oman and raise awareness on environmental issues during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This year, we challenged contestants to name plants and animals native to the Sultanate all the while showcasing how ESO contributes to the preservation and protection of the country. The most important message to take away from the evening was that we can all minimize our waste and limit our individual impact on natural habitats, ecosystems and the environment simply by making small changes in our lifestyle.”

The quiz was attended by ESO members and non-members and provided a fun educational opportunity to test the community’s knowledge of conservation issues. ESO would like to thank each of the following companies for supporting this event by donating prizes which included Iftar vouchers from Kargeen Café, Omani brand of handmade chocolates from Salma’s Chocolates and Omani Frankincense candles from The Nejd.
