IHC Education Summit brings together high school educators

International Horizons College (IHC) hosted its Education Summit 2013 on its campus in downtown Dubai.Over 50 high school counselors from throughout the United Arab Emirates, Middle East, North Africa and South Asia attended the three day event.


The Summit was inaugurated at the International Horizons College “Campus in the Sky” headquarters on the forty-second floor of the U-Bora Tower in Dubai’s Business Bay district. The opening address was given by IHC President Michael Dobe to over 50 high school counselors.


“IHC is proud to organize the Education Summit” stated Dr. Dobe. “The purpose of the Summit is to empower counselors as professionals in guiding their students toward college success.  By engaging in discussions with peers on common issues they face, college counselors from throughout the region learned new counseling techniques and shared best practices while extending their professional networks in ways that will be very beneficial to their students.”


Counselors representing high schools from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan and India attended various workshops coveringa variety of topics including:

  • Resources available for counselors to assist students in the admission processes to the elite US universities
  • Strategies for counselors to assist students in choosing their majors/fields of interest and the selection of university
  • Presentation on college life and coping with personal challenges


The IHC Education Summit included senior representatives presenting in workshops from the University of California Berkeley, Rutgers University and University of Vermont.


At the conclusion of activities IHC hosted a Gala Dinner for the IHC board of trustees, counselors, and educational leaders. The featured speaker was Osman Sultan – Chief Executive Officer of du.

In telecom, everything is turning digital in every conceivable way, where individuals and all other users are increasingly becoming more involved in this ecosystem; this digital age will be an enabler of positive transformation for all of us. I am particularly excited about the emergence of Smart Education technologies, such as Cloud-based learning which paves the way for a happier, more enriching learning environment. I invite everyone here to embrace the opportunities that come their way, for they could potentially change the world as we know it.”


Other presenters included Ziad Azzam founder of Taaleem, and “Ask Ali” Ali Al Saloom.

It was an excellent way to network with other Counselors in the area; as well as collaborate with representatives from featured universities.  I was impressed with IHC’s hospitality and informative sessions” stated Kia Beguesse Secondary Guidance Counselor at Bradenton Preparatory Academy
