Knowledge without Borders ready to begin distributing home libraries in Al Dhaid city

Knowledge without Borders announced that preparations have been completed to launch the new phase of its home library distribution in the emirate of Sharjah. Covering 4500 families in Al Dhaid City, the distribution process will commence beginning of March and will continue till the end of 2015.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of Knowledge without Borders, and Eng. Ahmed bin Nahaila, Al Dhaid Branch Manager of the Directorate of Town Planning & Survey, in which distribution methods and reception points for libraries from the project’s stores that are to be delivered to its beneficiaries were discussed.

The Al Dhaid phase of the project is the 12th out of 13 planned phases for distribution of libraries to national families in the emirate of Sharjah. The first 11 phases were completed by the end of 2013, covering 13000 families in Khorfakkan, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, Al Mulaiha, Al Madam, Al Hamriyah, Shais, Wadi Al Helo, Al Nahwa, Al Sajaa and Nazwa. The final phase of the project will include the city of Sharjah and its outskirts.

Rashid Al Kous said that KWB is keen to provide all the necessary resources to deliver the home libraries to beneficiaries in Al Dhaid city, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The Al Dhaid branch of the Directorate of Town Planning & Survey will be the official venue for distributing libraries to beneficiary families.

Al Kous extended thanks to HE Eng. Salah bin Bati, Chairman of the Sharjah Directorate of Town Planning and Survey who directed employees to cooperate with the KWB project and to provide the space needed to store books in the directorate branch in Al Dhaid.

Eng Ahmed bin Nahaila expressed his pleasure at the cooperation with KWB in distributing books to families in Al Dhaid. He said that the collaboration between government agencies is consistent across all federal and local departments in the UAE to serve the interests of the people. He praised the leading role played by KWB in cultural development among citizens.

The Knowledge without Borders project was launched in 2008 under the auspices of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the close follow up Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organizing Committee of “Knowledge without Borders” project. The move aims to spread community awareness on the importance of reading and general knowledge, and to establish a library in every house containing a valuable collection of Arabic books that address different topics, including literary, scientific, religious, cultural, and children’s books, among many more.

The project contributes to enhance Sharjah’s reputation as the cultural capital in the UAE. An extensive programme of lectures, workshops, cultural activities are being held for schools, universities, libraries and members of community from different ages and nationalities, as part of the initiative.
