Private schools in Saudi Arabia have been banned by the education ministry from recruiting expatriate student counsellors and said these positions should be filled by qualified Saudis specialised in psychology or sociology, Saudi Gazette has reported. The decision was taken to ensure the confidentiality of Saudi families, said Ibrahim Al-Salim, member of the private schools committee in the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “The students usually tend to open up to these counsellors, revealing family issues that should remain secret,” he said.
