Oman to have new private university by 2016

Isis Innovation, the technical transfer firm of the University of Oxford, has signed a consultancy agreement with representatives of a new private university planned in Oman, Muscat Daily has reported. The founders’ committee of Muscat University includes senior international academics, university administrators from prestigious institutions including the University of Oxford, leaders in innovation and prominent businesses owners. The non-profit institution is expected to be established in the sultanate’s capital by 2016, with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. The university aims to create graduates with aptitude and skill sets needed to assist growth of the private sector. The curriculum will be designed keeping requirements of the private sector in mind, and the university is expected to positively influence growth in employment opportunities in Oman.
