Oman to roll out strict rules for sheesha restaurants

April 16, 2014 9:06 am

The Muscat Municipality is set to introduce stricter regulations to regulate sheesha restaurants in the Muscat governorate, following complaints received from citizens about their increasing numbers in residential areas, Times of Oman has reported. Under the proposed rules, sheesha restaurants will now have to be located at least 500 metres away from residential neighbourhoods, instead of the current 200 metres limit. The permit fee will also be raised from the current OR5,000, with a view to discouraging too many sheesha restaurants mushrooming in the governorate, said the civic body.
