Oman’s OABC partners with Sultan Qaboos University
In its latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Oman American Business Council (OABC) partnered with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) to enhance students’ occupational prospects through an employability workshop.
Prior to SQU’s annual Career Fair, OABC members conducted presentations and coached students on writing a CurriculumVitae and on performing successfully in interviews.
Representatives of OABC member companies attended the workshop and shared their expertise, with representation from AMIDEAST, American Express, Dentons, Dover Middle East, Grand Hyatt Muscat, OCTAL, Oman Arab Bank and RA Logistics.
“Omanization has put the employability spotlight on young Omanis as the Sultanate’s key demographic, and as new employment opportunities arise for local students, they are seeking ways to showcase their abilities effectively. The OABC is honored to partner with SQU’s Career Guidance Center in advising the next generation of Omani employees on how best to apply for jobs, which simultaneously enhances the effectiveness of the recruitment process for our members,” said Sarah Jackson, AMIDEAST/Oman Country Director and OABC Board Member.
Mutassim AlZadjali, Head of Corporate Communication in Oman Arab Bank, another member of the OABC, added, “CSR is an important pillar of our operations and the human element has always been among the priorities and interests of the Bank. The OAB continually seeks to support Oman’s development through many different activities targeting youth and culture.”
The OABC’s workshop was conducted on the 4th of March in an effort to engage students in preparation for SQU’s Career Fair, which took place at the same time. The event aimed not only to enhance the capabilities of the participating students, but also to aid representatives of the public and private sector to recognize the potential of students with greater ease and to meet their recruiting needs efficiently.
