OMEGA has renewed its partnership with FINA, the federation that governs Aquatic Sports around the world. The agreement between OMEGA and FINA has been extended through 2021 and includes some of the world’s most important swimming and diving events. OMEGA has been associated with FINA since 1973, when it served as official timekeeper at the international federation’s first ever FINA World Championships in Belgrade.

The timing of the announcement coincides with the inaugural event in the FINA Swimming World Cup competition of the 2014 season. OMEGA’s brand ambassador Chad Le Clos will be attempting to defend his title in the series, which begins in Doha and continues at six other venues through early November.

OMEGA is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading sports timekeepers and its long-term association with FINA means that it will serve talented aquatic athletes at all of FINA’s key events including the FINA World Championships, which feature long-course swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo, open water swimming, diving and high-diving.

The brand is also responsible for delivering the timekeeping at the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), the FINA Swimming World Cup and the FINA Diving World Series as well as the FINA High Diving World Cup, which was inaugurated this year. OMEGA also delivers timekeeping and scoring services at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships every two years.

FINA President, Dr Julio C. Maglione said, “We are very pleased to continue this fruitful partnership with Omega. Over so many years and so many competitions together, FINA and Omega have always worked hand in hand to provide the best possible conditions to our athletes, coaches and officials. We are sure that this co-operation will remain in the future for the benefit of Aquatics worldwide.”

OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart shared his enthusiasm saying, “We have enjoyed a long and productive relationship with FINA and are delighted that we will continue to work with the Federation well into the future. World-class competitive swimming and diving are among the most thrilling sports and we look forward to timing and measuring the performances delivered at every FINA event.”

FINA’s General Management System presented in cooperation with OMEGA

The partnership between OMEGA and FINA also includes collaboration on the Federation’s new General Management System (GMS).

The innovative online system has been designed to streamline event management processes as well as FINA administrative procedures for all of the Federation’s main events. At its core is a specially-designed database enabling the transfer of knowledge and information, facilitating coordination between FINA and its Organising Committees.

The new GMS allows FINA to provide a tool for FINA Member Federations, who can enter information about their athletes and team officials at any time. Event organisers will also be able to manage key event operational data.

The FINA GMS will first be used for the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) and the FINA World Aquatics Convention Doha (QAT) in December 2014. The system will be systematically introduced into more FINA events in 2015 including the FINA World Championships and FINA World Masters Championships Kazan (RUS) 2015.

OMEGA and Swimming
OMEGA’s chronographs were first used to time sporting events more than a century ago. The company’s association with competitive swimming dates back to 1932 when it was first entrusted with the official timekeeping for all disciplines at the Olympic Games. In the years since, OMEGA has been responsible for the timekeeping at many of the world’s most prestigious swimming events. The brand’s impressive roster of sporting ambassadors includes swimming legends Michael Phelps, Alexander Popov, Nathalie Coughlin and one of the sport’s rising superstars, Chad Le Clos.
