Qatar Foundation hosts activities for all family on National Sport Day

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is hosting a range of fun activities and sports events on National Sport Day.

All members of the community are encouraged to participate in the various activities, which include football, basketball, tennis, swimming, running, and cricket competitions. The action-packed programme will take place at six venues across Education City, and include special events for children and people with disabilities.

Engineer Saad al Muhannadi, President of Qatar Foundation, said, “National Sport Day has become a popular yearly event, focusing on health and sports in order to encourage everyone in Qatar to embrace a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Sport plays an important role in furthering our physical and mental health. Through our participation in National Sport Day, we would like to educate society about the positive effect of regular physical exercise.”

Hamad bin Khalifa University will host a range of competitions, including bowling, basketball, volleyball and badminton. Other events include a ping-pong tournament, billiards, chess, yoga and Zumba for ladies. At the Awsaj Recreation Centre, children with special needs can enjoy wall climbing, swimming, basketball and diving. There will also be a relay race, Zumba sessions and a Fitness Challenge. The Community Venue will also offer a number of activities for children, including a carousel, bouncy castle, inflatable football fields, as well as face painting and an arts and craft corner.

At the Recreation Center participants can enjoy inter-departmental football competitions, outdoor spinning, junior and senior open squash, in addition to football and tennis games for children. Running competitions for adults and children will take place at Al Shaqab, which will also host equestrian entertainment, carriage rides, showjumping and trick riding. The sixth location is the Cricket Ground, where a match between Qatar Foundation and RasGas will take place, in addition to Kabaddi, cricket for children, and a Tug-of-War.

Awards for participants will be presented at Hamad bin Khalifa University Student Center and there will be a Grand Finale Celebration at Al Shaqab featuring a ballet performance. Healthy meals and nutrition advice will be available at all locations. BioBank will celebrate National Sport Day by hosting a special booth at Qatar Foundation’s Recreation Center where free medical tests will be offered, including a fitness test and a Vital Indicators test.
