QU, Ministry of Environment sign collaborative agreement on research and training
Qatar University signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Environment to establish collaboration in the field of research and the development and training the Qataris in multiple environmental and agricultural fields.
The agreement will help to meet the needs of environmental challenges at technical and legislative levels in Qatar to develop effective and appropriate environmental and agricultural solutions.
The agreement was signed by QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham and H.E. the Minister of Environment Ahmad bin Amer Al-Hemaidi in the presence of VPs, deans and officials from both institutions.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration in a number of co-activities in the field of development, training and education. Both institutions will also collaborate to establish a flexible environment of communication between the research centers, colleges and departments in QU and the departments in the Ministry of Environment. The agreement also establishes a collaboration in research publication and conducting meetings between experts and specialists to discuss the best methods of activating this mutual collaboration.
In his remarks, H.E. the Minister of Environment Ahmad bin Amer Al-Hemaidi said that “The MoU aims at establishing a collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and QU in a number of mutual beneficial research activities to find effective solutions for environmental and agricultural challenges. The MoU will also provide training opportunities for Qataris and will help exchanging experiences between academic and governmental bodies.”
H.E. the Minister of Environment Ahmad bin Amer Al-Hemaidi added: “The Ministry of Environment is taking an important responsibility in developing the Qatari environment using sustainable methods for the benefit of next generations. This target cannot be accomplished without stating policies and plans on the bases of scientific facts, data and indicators needed to measure the level of development. Then, right decisions that promote the economic development and preserve natural resources can be taken.”
QU President Dr Hassan Al-Derham stated that “This MoU signed between QU and Ministry of Environment is part of QU’s pillars to corporate with local ministries and organizations which contributes in achieving QNV 2030.”
Dr Hassan Al-Derham added that “The importance of this MoU lies in the fact that is aims at conserving the environment to achieve the sustainable development. In last years, QU has stared several important environmental initiatives such as: Bio-fuel project, research on palm trees and the launching of ‘Janan’ which contributes in enriching the data in the field of marine. This MoU highlights the important role of QU in providing several academic programs that have direct relation with environmental issues.”
Dr Al- Derham added: “This MoU comes in line with Qatar’s endeavors to establish a knowledge-based economy and sustainable development to preserve the rights of having a healthy developed life for our next generations.”
