To coincide with its 10th Anniversary celebrations, RCSI Bahrain has announced the launch of six PhD scholarships. The Dilmun Postgraduate and Research Scholarships will see RCSI Bahrain sponsor up to six postgraduate students to undertake their PhDs under joint supervision from one RCSI Dublin supervisor and one RCSI Bahrain supervisor. Part of the research will be conducted in Bahrain and the other part in Dublin.

Projects can be in any research topic that is relevant to the RCSI research strategy – population health, basic biomedical science, translational medicine, and medical education.

“We aim to attract highly-qualified Bahrainis to benefit from these scholarships,” said Professor Otoom.

“The PhD graduates will act as future ambassadors for both RCSI and Bahrain.”

“In addition to gaining research experience, these graduates will also learn the necessary skills to qualify them as academic leaders in their respective chosen areas and to join the teaching staff at the University,” he added.

“These scholarships are one small way in acknowledging and appreciating the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support of RCSI Bahrain since the University’s establishment in 2004.”

“This is a major milestone in building our research capacity and showed our commitments to the importance of research in supporting teaching and learning. I would like to thank all the people involved in this project in particular our colleagues in Dublin who highly supported this initiative”, President Otoom added.
