Retailers are witnessing brisk sales of back-to-school products, as most Omani public and private schools reopening next week. Malls across the city have announced discounts on stationery and other school items as parents are out purchasing new bags, school dresses and all things required for class. “We have promotions on school items every year and the response is always good. We have school items ranging from RO1 to RO12. Bags, water bottles, school uniforms, notebooks, pencil boxes are among the many items on sale. A lot of parents and guardians are shopping for school stationery,” said an official from Lulu Hypermarket in Darsait, Muscat Daily reported. However, some parents are disappointed as they say prices of most products have increased. Jameel al Yaqoobi, a professor from the Sultan Qaboos University, who has three school-going children said, “The prices of most school items have increased over the last few years. I think the authorities must check this hike.”
