Students from Stenden University Qatar minoring in Events Management hosted yet another community event, entitled “The Bigger Picture”, in collaboration with Best Buddies Qatar for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Best Buddies Qatar was established in 2008 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in order to cater to children with special needs. The event focused on providing a fun-filled day of games and activities for these special needs students and raising awareness of Best Buddies in Qatar.

The organizing group “N3XT EVENTS” consisted of eight third-year International Hospitality Management and International Logistics Management students. The event took place at the OASIS BEACH CLUB in early June. The activities over three hours included synergy-driven group games in which the students took part to compete to win prizes.

The event was sponsored by Oasis Beach Club, Qatargas, and Darwish Travel Co to raise awareness of the physical and intellectual challenges that special needs students encounter.

Tahira Makda, Event Management Minor Coordinator, Stenden University Qatar, said: “It was great to see the special needs students enjoying the pirate-themed games we provided and very rewarding to be able to offer them such an exciting day out in conjunction with Best Buddies.”

Events produced by students are part of the Events Management minor currently offered by Stenden University Qatar. The students receive both theoretical and practical knowledge of conceptualizing and hosting events throughout the four-month-long period of the minor program. The majors that Stenden University Qatar provides are for three degree programs: International Hospitality Management, International Tourism Management and International Business Management Studies.
