Sharjah’s favourite outdoor leisure destination is getting ready to put on a celebration of heroic proportions as it prepares for its first ever Superheroes Festival. From the 30th of January to the 1st of February, Al Majaz Waterfront will be the scene of a host of fun activities and special events, including art workshops, film screenings, a superhero photo booth, and interactive game shows, all designed to bring its visitors and their favourite superheroes closer together.

Speaking about the festival, Mohammed Fadhil Al Mazroui, Al Majaz Waterfront Manager, said, “Al Majaz Waterfront’s many outdoor events and festivals have made it one of the most popular family leisure destinations in Sharjah – a role we are both proud of and eager to maintain. Which is why, with the Superheroes Festival, we want to push the envelope even further. This event will not only offer the many high quality and interactive types of activities and entertainment events that our visitors have come to expect from us, but will add a whole new element in the form of outdoor film screenings. It is always exciting to be able to offer something new to our valued visitors and we look forward to sharing this wonderful experience with all.”

The festival will have plenty to do for the young lot, with four daily performances (6:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m., 9:15 p.m., and 10:15 p.m.) of the fun and exciting interactive game show ‘Super Mr. Potato Head’, which will give its contestants the chance to see just who can put their very own Super Potato Head together first. The Superhero LEGO Zone will be another opportunity for creative youngsters to exercise their imaginations, providing a space for Superheroes fans to construct their favourite hero, create their own, and even design their very own superhero city.

Aspiring comic and superhero creators can also head on down to Al Majaz Waterfront to take part in any of a series of workshops by acclaimed illustrators Marwan Al Khaja, Khaled Hamad, and Mo Abedin that will be taking place during the festival. And as no Superhero festival would be complete without something to remember it by, fans can pick up the latest comic, book, or video game the Superhero Market, or get a very special photo souvenir from the Digiphoto superhero photo booth.

Al Majaz Waterfront will also be screening two big blockbuster superhero movies a night on all three days of the festival. Shows will be at 6.30pm and 9.30pm each evening, and festival goers will be able to enjoy super favourites such as Batman Begins, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, Superman Returns, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dhs120m Al Majaz Waterfront, Shurooq’s debut project, was opened March 26, 2012, and is situated in Sharjah’s most vital and commercial district on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon. As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, it plays host to all major events in the emirate.

Al Majaz Waterfront also houses many world-class restaurants and cafes, including: T.G.I Friday’s, Caribou Coffee, Fat Burger, Pizzaro, Baja Fresh, Zahr El- Laymoun, Tim Hortons café, Cold Stone, ElManza, a fine dining Moroccan restaurant and Shakespeare and Co. All of them overlook the breath-taking Sharjah Fountain. In addition to that, Al Majaz Waterfront also houses Splash Park, Mini Golf, Play Area and “ALWAN” a unique activity centre exclusively designed for children to spend quality time with their parents or simply to have fun.
