How does the UAE outsmart KSA, China and Russia when it comes to reputation?
Outpacing bigger economies including China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, the UAE has emerged as the most reputable country in the Middle East region.
With 55.9 points, UAE has been ranked 36th in the list of 55 nations that was released last week.
In the Reputation Institute’s 2018 ranking of the world’s most reputable countries, UAE has seen a slight drop when compared with 2017 ranking but still, the Emirates managed to retain the top position in the Gulf nation.
Various factors that have been considered while deducing this ranking include being welcoming, safe, beautiful, highly principled, appealing lifestyle and enjoyable.
UAE on the top
The UAE has seen a dip of nine positions in 2018 when compared with 2017 when it was ranked 27th with 72.4 points. However, in 2016, UAE was placed at 46th position.
The UAE is followed by Turkey (43rd rank with 48.9 points), Algeria (50th rank with 45.1 points), Saudi Arabia (51st rank with 40.5 points), Iran (54th rank with 29.9 points) and Iraq (55th rank with 25.1 points).
Stable geopolitical conditions and good image abroad played a crucial role in ensuring UAE’s top reputation in the region.
“There is a new era emerging in which the intangibles of reputation underscore political, social, and economic change. Underlying feelings of geopolitical tension, nationalism, and social unrest results in overall reputation decline and support,” said the report of the Reputation Institute, a global reputation measurement, and management services firm.
“People are expecting more and more from companies and countries, in terms of solving the challenges we’re seeing around the world, and they’re being let down,” Forbes quoted Nicolas Georges Trad, executive partner at the Reputation Institute, saying this while reacting on the report’s findings.
Methodology & interesting findings
To find out the rankings, the Reputation Institute did a survey among more than 58000 individuals, representing 55 largest countries by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and that have familiarity with at least 51 percent of the G8 general population. The survey was done during the period from March to April 2018.
Interestingly, only 20 percent of the world’s top 10 economies managed to cement a place in the top 10 reputable countries. However, in terms of GDP growth, all leading economies saw a positive trend in 2017; however, the majority saw a decline in reputation. Also, none of the top 10 most reputable countries are in the top 10 by population. The report also found that top countries that communicate a unique story through integrated communications channels earn a strong score on aspects of media and social network attributes.
