The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken part in the 8th Healthy, Safe Summer campaign launched by Dubai Municipality, where the Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department, at RTA’s Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, held two awareness events.

The first one targeted about 400 parking inspectors who attended four lectures delivered in collaboration with the Municipality at Al Wasl Auditorium, focusing on how to prevent the onset of heat exhaustion.

The second event was a site tour of the metro stations targeting the public to educate them about the risks of heat stress and how to cope with it.

“RTA’s participation in these events stems from its commitment to safeguard the security, health & safety of the community, considering it part & parcel of the core business of RTA’s Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department. We would therefore wish to avail this opportunity to thank the Dubai Municipality for offering potential cooperation towards realizing the objectives of the campaign,” said Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, RTA.

“We have targeted RTA’s parking inspectors throughout the four lectures delivered as their job nature warrants them to remain outdoor during daytime; which makes them liable to the blazing sunlight, and should therefore be educated to take precautionary measures. Lectures covered all steps that have to be taken to cope with the heat stress including a visual presentation about the European Safety Education Cartoon (NAPO); which was hosted by the Dubai Municipality as a Safety Ambassador during the event. Inspectors were offered solutions to take in order to mitigate the complications of prolonged sweating; which might result in hyponatremia (Low Blood Sodium Level),” added Abdul Mohsen.

“On the other hand, a team at RTA’s Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department toured the metro stations to sensitize riders about how to protect from the risks of heat exhaustion, offering them saline solutions to replenish fluids lost through sweating during summer months, as well as awareness leaflets and T-shirts. The campaign received a positive and interactive response from targeted individuals comprising different age groups and nationalities,” said the CEO of RTA’s Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector in a final remark.
