Saudi health authorities have closed the emergency department at Jeddah’s King Fahd Hospital after a rise in cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus among medical staff, AFP has reported. The move was a “precautionary measure,” a medical source was quoted as saying. The total number of cases in Saudi Arabia has reached 175 since MERS first appeared in the kingdom in September 2012.
