As Dubai’s efforts to increase significantly the number of tourists from China gets momentum, the emirate is set to host a well known awards ceremony that would attract more than 6,000 members of the worldwide Chinese insurance and financial industry.

After beating competition from Singapore and Hawaii, Dubai won the bid to host the 2015 International Dragon Award (IDA) annual meeting to honour best performing professionals in the insurance and financial industry. The event will be held for the first time outside Asia since it began presenting awards in 2000.

The IDA event, which will see delegates from 17 countries gathering for meetings, networking events and award ceremonies, will be held from August 22-25 at the Dubai World Trade Centre with ‘Your Vision, Your World” theme.

The event is expected to help Dubai maintain its high rate of growth of visitors from China into the second half of this year.

Dubai reported a 25 per cent increase in guest arrivals from China in the first six months of this year compared to same period last year. It received 241,000 Chinese tourists in the first half of 2015.

“Dubai’s hosting of this important and highly anticipated Chinese industry event is testament to the efforts being made by tourism stakeholders to position the emirate as a premier destination for business and leisure travel. China is a very important inbound market for Dubai, and the emirate is making big efforts to attract more Chinese visitors,” said Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

The city has welcomed 13.2 million international overnight travellers in 2014 with Western Europe and GCC topping the list of source markets. While Saudi Arabia came first in the list of countries that sent vidsitors to Dubai last year with a share of 10 per cent of th total footfalls to the city, India ranked second followed by the UK, Oman and USA.

Commenting on Dubai’s hosting of the meeting, Steen Jakobsen, Director of Dubai Business Events, said: “We are honored that Dubai was selected as the first city outside of Asia to host the International Dragon Award 2015 event, and we are very much looking forward to showcasing this remarkable city to the thousands of delegates who will be attending. Dubai is particularly well suited for Chinese visitors thanks to its high standards of hospitality and vast array of leisure attractions which include some of the best hotels and shopping malls in the world, and we look forward to welcoming the delegation.”

The organizers of the annual conference believes the event will not only bring thousands of delegates to Dubai, but also will help to extend Dubai’s image and reputation amongst influential Chinese business circles as one of the world’s most recommended convention and tourism destinations.

“We chose Dubai not only because it is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in the world, but also because it has a state-of-the-art business and convention center which is equipped with all the latest facilities. We have a lot of confidence in Dubai and know that its first class accessibility in terms of airlift, its many well-designed hotels and its high quality service standards will make the 2015 IDA Annual Meeting a very successful business event,” said Richard Wu, Chairman of the event.
